Game, often described as the country’s biggest specialist gaming chain, has lodged a notice of intention to appoint administrators. The move marks the second time the retailer has entered administration, highlighting the ongoing pressures facing physical gaming stores. The development follows the closure of around 40 Game stores across the UK. Other branches that ceased trading included stores in Basingstoke, Chatham, Bridgwater, Trafford Shopping Centre in Manchester and several locations in the south of England. Just months later, in January 2020, the company announced plans to shut 40 of its more than 300 UK stores, citing changes in consumer behaviour and the shift towards online gaming.
