The Senate on Thursday embarked on investigation into operational inefficiencies and insecurity in the Nigerian railway system, following concerns over declining service delivery.
The Senate decision was sequel to concern raised by Senator Abdul Ningi under personal explanation.
Ningi drew the attention of the Senate to the deteriorating state of key rail corridors in the country.
Senator Ningi further claimed that despite the rail line generating over N1.8 billion in revenue, there has been no corresponding improvement in services.
Consequently, the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio inaugurated an ad hoc committee to carry out a holistic investigation into the Nigerian railway system.
