Stakeholders, who made the call at the National Self-Care Advocacy Network, NSAN, meeting on Wednesday, noted that empowering citizens to take charge of their health through self-care is another sure route to ensuring the country achieves Universal Health Coverage. She noted that the goal of the advocacy is to make self-care safer, better regulated, and properly linked to the health system. She described self-care as the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, and cope with illness with or without direct support from health providers. “Self-care is not replacing the health system. It must be safe, effective, and linked to the health system,” she added.
