The Council of the European Union on Thursday sanctioned Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) leaders over the atrocities in Sudan. The action affects RSF-affiliated and 2 SAF-affiliated actors, including Algoney Hamdan Dagalo Musa, a RSF Major and the militia head’s brother, RSF Brigadier Generals, and Commanders. The regional bloc insists that “the responsibility for this war” continues to be on the shoulders of the RSF, the SAF, as well as their affiliated militias. The Council reiterated its call for the restoration of the rule of law in Sudan, justice, accountability, and respect for international law and human rights law. In December, the UK sanctioned four RSF commanders accused of carrying out atrocities in El Fasher, Sudan, including mass killings and deliberate attacks on thousands of civilians.
