The Darlington nurses have refused to accept an apology from health chiefs for forcing them to share a changing room with a transgender colleague. The health trust, which was found to have 'violated the dignity’ of the nurses, has finally apologised after battling the women for two-and-a-half years. In a landmark ruling earlier this month, an employment tribunal judge said that forcing the eight female nurses to share a changing room with a transgender woman created a ‘hostile, humiliating and degrading environment’ for them. Judge Seamus Sweeney concluded that County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust had harassed and discriminated against the nurses, who worked at Darlington Memorial Hospital. We urge the trust to move swiftly from statements to concrete, compliant action.’The nurses first raised concerns with hospital management about having to share a changing room with Henderson in July 2023.
