A man is facing jail after deliberately causing a catastrophic 'earthquake-like' explosion that destroyed three homes when tampering with his gas main.
Emergency services rushed to rescue the 57-year-old and his dog in the rubble of his house on Eden Street, Alvaston at around 7.34pm on June 10, 2025.
Police, fire crews and gas workers remained at the scene for more than 17 hours, while residents of Eden Street were forced to evacuate for several days.
Solway, of no fixed address, was hospitalised with severe burns for several weeks and his dog made a full recovery.
Detectives discovered the explosion was deliberate as Solway, who was the only person in the house at the time, had been tampering with the gas supply main.
