Stuart David Brown received a suspended jail term at Durham Crown Court on October 1 after admitting attempted theft. The court was told the breach arose from his arrest for the theft £39.12 worth of food and household goods from the Jet garage shop, on Redworth Road, Shildon, on December 26. Judge Bennett said he made it perfectly clear what the outcome would be if the defendant breached the suspended sentence. He, therefore, activated 30 weeks of the suspended sentence for the breach, and added a further two weeks for the shop theft, all to be served immediately, totalling 32 weeks.
