The fatality is the second confirmed storm-related death after Winter Storm Fern hit South Carolina, according to DPH. On Monday, Jan. 26, a 96-year-old woman in Greenwood County died of hypothermia, a spokesperson for the Greenwood County Coroner’s Office confirms to PEOPLE. That same weekend, a 93-year-old woman died in extreme cold a block away from her house, PEOPLE previously reported. Ten people were found dead outside in New York City during Winter Storm Fern, according to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
