The U.S. Census Bureau released new population estimates for 2025 on Tuesday, and one state gained more people than any other. South Carolina added around 80,000 people, which was good for a growth rate of 1.5% — the fastest in the nation. Three of those top five fastest growing states are in the South. Already the most populous region in the nation, the South added more than 1.2 million people in 2025, a growth rate of about 0.9%. In terms of total population change, no state added more people than Texas, which saw its population surge by nearly 400,000 people, roughly twice as high as second-place Florida.
