The bill, if it became law, would create a 5-year “reintegration pilot program” for individuals who are about to be released from state correctional facilities. The pilot program would be implemented in three correctional facilities – two male and one female – of the department’s choosing. These numbers were echoed in the bill’s text, which said the reintegration pilot program is meant to find methods to prevent that trend. DOCCS currently offers some reentry services for incarcerated people facing release. Hevesi’s reintegration pilot program bill is not the first piece of reentry legislation introduced.
