['Jonathan Lloyd']
News – NBC Los Angeles
Federal investigators are looking into a report of a Waymo robotaxi striking a child at low speed near an elementary school this month in Santa Monica.
Waymo submitted a report to the agency that indicated other children, a crossing guard and several double-parked vehicles were in the area.
Santa Monica police said the low-speed collision was near 24th Street and Pearl Street, adjacent to Grant Elementary School.
The Waymo Driver braked hard, reducing speed from approximately 17 mph to under 6 mph before contact was made.
This significant reduction in impact speed and severity is a demonstration of the material safety benefit of the Waymo Driver."
