Jordan Chiles' appeal granted in Paris Olympics bronze medal battle
['Jonathan Lloyd']
News – NBC Los Angeles
The dispute over a Paris Olympics women's gymnastics bronze medal that placed UCLA gymnast Jordan Chiles at the center of an international sports standoff between the United States and Romania is heading for a new legal review.
An appeal by the Bruins' senior athlete in battle over the floor exercise bronze medal was granted when Switzerland’s federal court said judges sent the matter back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to examine new evidence.
The judges' highly unusual ruling means Chiles could regain the medal she initially won in Paris after challenging her judged score in the floor exercise.
"USA Gymnastics will continue to support the efforts of Jordan and her team to retain her bronze medal in the 2024 Olympic women’s floor exercise.
Chiles won a gold medal in Paris in the team competition.
