Premier David Eby wants to help keep Canada united, he has more effective ways to do it than to accuse Alberta separatists of treason for meeting with Trump officials. He can support the nation-building project of building a bitumen pipeline (or pipelines) from Alberta’s oilsands to the B.C. coastline, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith. As Carney has said, we can’t control what U.S. President Donald Trump and his officials say or do. That includes promoting the annexation of Canada, or meeting with Alberta separatists to strategize about an independent Alberta, or about Alberta joining the U.S. — all of which are minority viewpoints both in Alberta and across Canada.
