Taking steps to further expand its dedicated truckload services, Omaha, Neb-based Werner Enterprises, a global freight transportation and logistics services provider and the nation’s seventh-largest truckload carrier, announced this week it has acquired Murfreesboro, Tenn.-based First Enterprises Inc. (FirstFleet), a provider of dedicated trucking services. What’s more, Werner said that this acquisition will make it the fifth-largest U.S.-based dedicated trucking services provider. Werner noted that FirstFleet has what it called unique capabilities to service attractive and durable end markets, including grocery, baked goods, and corrugated packaging. “FirstFleet is the perfect acquisition to accelerate the strategic expansion of our Dedicated business, establishing Werner as the fifth largest Dedicated carrier in the U.S. “The acquisition of FirstFleet gives Werner a boost in its dedicated business, vaulting it into the top five,” he said.
