(ABC 6 News) — Early on in the Iowa legislative session, the Iowa House passed a bill to ban eminent domain for carbon pipeline companies. Related: Iowa House passes eminent domain billEminent domain has been a topic of debate in Iowa due to the proposed Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline that would run throughout the western and northern part of the state, including Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Hancock, Mitchell, and Worth counties. However, this week the Iowa Senate has amended that bill to take out the eminent domain ban and give companies options to move forward with their projects. After companies initially reach out regarding purchasing land, landowners are allowed to decline further communication with the companies by providing either verbal or written notice. After these options have been exhausted with evidence being provided that they have, the amendment allows companies to then move forward with requesting authorization of eminent domain.
