The Mauritania Digital Transfer Points Association on Wednesday announced a temporary and organized suspension of withdrawal, deposit, and transfer services, citing recent measures linked to electronic transaction regulations. The association said the move was not directed at banking partnerships but aimed at safeguarding the sector and ensuring the delivery of financial services under safe and balanced conditions. The Mauritanian Professional Association of Banks (APBM) said it was not consulted on the decision, describing it as unilateral and stressing that existing regulatory frameworks and agreements already define the role of digital transfer points in withdrawal and deposit services. Mauritanian banks reassured customers that the suspension would not affect national digital Banking operations, noting that bank branches, agencies, and points of sale would continue functioning normally across the country, while banking applications would operate without interruption. The banks also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting customers’ interests and maintaining the stability and security of financial transactions through continued coordination with stakeholders.
