MEXICO CITY, Mexico: At least 11 were killed and another 12 injured after gunmen opened fire in a soccer field in central Mexico over the weekend. Posts on social media platforms by Salamanca Mayor Cesar Prieto stated that the gunmen arrived at the end of a soccer match and began spraying bullets in the field at random. Prieto appealed to President Claudia Sheinbaum for help to control the violence and said the attack was part of a “crime wave” in the city. Guanajuato had the highest number of murders in Mexico last year. The mayor said that criminal groups are trying to control or scare the authorities, but they will not succeed.
