The X-Men seem to be having a bad time in Avengers: Doomsday, leading to the possibility that Jean Grey and the rest of the team could be dead.

This further lends credence to the idea that Jean Grey may die early in the movie, possibly off-screen.
After all, if something is powerful enough to kill Jean Grey, it can probably make easy work out of any other mutant.
