Kentucky winter storm death toll rises to 12 after Fayette County woman dies from hypothermiaLEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — The death toll from last weekend’s powerful winter storm has now climbed to 12 across Kentucky, with the Fayette County Coroner’s Office confirming a Lexington woman died from hypothermia caused by extreme cold.
Her death becomes the latest storm-related fatality as dangerous cold and power outages continue impacting communities across the commonwealth.
Earlier this week, Governor Andy Beshear announced an additional storm-related death involving a 55-year-old man from Livingston County, bringing the statewide total to 11 before the Fayette County confirmation.
Pulaski County Coroner Clyde Strunk said Phillips lost power during the storm.
Governor Beshear has said families of all storm victims will receive assistance through the Team Kentucky Emergency Relief Fund to help cover funeral expenses.
