In September 1981, Andy Warhol visited Fort Collins to celebrate the opening of his exhibition, Warhol at Colorado State University, at the Clara Hatton Gallery. Yet Warhol’s visit seems to have left the most lasting impression. A legendary visit to CSUWarhol’s 1981 visit was the brainchild of John and Kimiko Powers, renowned art collectors from Aspen. Former Art Department Chair Perry Ragouzis once recalled the story of how Warhol’s visit came to be: “John was at the center. In 2007, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts launched The Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program, gifting a significant number of Warhol’s photographic works to university and college museums across the country.
