Operation BBQ Relief, a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit known for providing meals during times of disaster, is deploying to Oxford to serve those affected in the community. OBR will begin serving dinner at the Walmart in Oxford on Friday at approximately 3 p.m. and will remain in Oxford for two weeks, according to organizers. Founded in 2011 by Kansas City pitmasters in response to the devastating Joplin tornadoes, Operation BBQ Relief is known for bringing the healing power of BBQ to communities in need. Since its founding, OBR has served more than 14 million meals across 43 states, as well as in the Bahamas and Jamaica. OBR is working alongside partners, including Walmart, ITDRC, Matthew 25, Tides of Hope, Farrell Gas, Blue Rhino, and others, to coordinate meal service in Oxford and Ripley.
