Complications in Sue, which will run from Feb. 4-8 at the Academy of Music, highlights the work of 10 different composers who put their own accent on the world premiere performance. The new opera progresses through 10 vignettes by Jackson, a Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning playwright who is making his operatic debut. Zack Winokur and Raja Feather Kelly are co-directors, and conductor Caren Levine makes her Opera Philadelphia debut at the podium. “The scope and scale of opera really speak to me, so when (Opera Philadelphia General Director Anthony Ross Costanzo) invited me to dip my toe in the waters of the form, I saw it as an exciting opportunity to leave my comfort zone. “I’m beyond thrilled to be playing the titular role in this brilliant new opera, Complications in Sue,” Bond said.
