Hunter Sues SCDNR after Dismissal of Night Hunting Charges Eugene L. 01.29.26The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is now getting sued over a “once in a career case” by South Carolina hunter Shane Huffman. On November 15th, 2024, Huffman was arrested in Greenville by South Carolina game wardens, DNR officer Robert Thomas, and DNR Lance Corporal Zach Tatum for supposedly night-hunting. From there, Huffman and his truck were searched, and his truck, rifle, and hunting gear were all seized. The suit also alleges defamation for the false and defamatory statements SCDNR made when the officers accused Huffman of breaking the law. Under South Carolina law, “night-hunting” and “shining” involve the use of a spotlight or any other artificial light source.
