East Croydon, the busiest station in the borough, has faced severe disruption due to Network Rail engineering works on the Brighton Main Line. Urging passengers to “plan ahead”, Network Rail said extensive upgrades were necessary to the Brighton Main Line’s ageing infrastructure. Passengers at East Croydon station told ELL the disruption has not been limited to weekends and cancellations are now affecting weekday services as well. Lucy McAuliffe, Sussex route director for Network Rail, said that the Brighton Main Line is one of the most “complex and congested in the country”.
