Updated statistics from the Welsh Government show the national recycling rate has risen to 68.4% in 2024/25.
However, the report noted that the national recycling rate was still below the 70% target outlined in the Welsh Government’s 2021 Beyond Recycling circular economy strategy.
At a more regional level, 20 out of the 22 local authority areas in Wales recorded an increased recycling rate on a year-on-year basis.
These collections were classified as the lower rate of material being sourced for reuse, recycling or composting.
Irranca-Davies argued that the latest recycling statistics demonstrated the potential to further build on these findings.
