LEAL, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – About 80 people attended a community informational meeting to ask questions about the Barnes County North School District’s June 9th vote to increase the general fund levy by 20-mills over the next eight years. He said Barnes County North is facing a deficit, primarily due to the district’s ongoing bond and interest payments, for the building, which account for nearly 20% of the district’s annual expenditures, and continued increases in salaries, supplies, and transportation costs. Currie talked about the some of the cuts the school district would be facing if the vote to increase the general fund levy fails. The vote will be held on June 9th in the Barnes County North School from 7am to 7pm. The school district needs 55 percent voter approval for the measure to pass.
