It is being delivered by a consortium called Femern Link Contractors (FLC), featuring Vinci, Aarsleff, Wayss & Freytag, Max Bögl and others. It said this was due to issues both with the trench and the specialised immersion vessels Ivy 1 and Ivy 2. Excavation of the 18km trench was completed in April 2024, the first tunnel element was cast in May 2024 and the immersion vessels arrived in October 2024. Yet, over a year later, not a single element has been submerged – and they are beginning to pile up on site. Bliaut admitted there are issues with the submersion vessel, which is “not ready yet for several different reasons”.
