The emails request wire transfer payments for development application fees. Scam emails like this one may appear to come from county staff or board members but they’re using fake addresses like PlanningNewHanoverCountyNC@usa.com. Lastly, they’ll request wire transfer payment for application review and approval fees. The county reminds residents that they do not request payment via wire transfer.
