Robeson County inmate back in custody after escaping Columbus County Detention CenterInmate back in custody (Photo: Columbus County Sheriff's Office)COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says a man is back in custody after impersonating an inmate who was scheduled to be released.
Robeson County inmate, 26-year-old Zion Britt, was being held at the Columbus County Detention Center temporarily.
According to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, Britt was captured around 5 Thursday morning at the Motel 6 on Lackey Street in Lumberton.
Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said after discovering the release, they initiated a coordinated response and worked until Britt was found.
Court documents say Britt is now being charged with escape from county confinement facility and forgery of instrument in Columbus County.
