A group of MPs has filed an urgent proposal calling for a dedicated emergency wing for oncology patients at King Hamad University Hospital, operating 24 hours a day. The proposal asks for a separate unit reserved for cancer patients, staffed by specialist doctors and nurses, and fitted with isolation rooms for those whose immune systems are weakened after chemotherapy. In the accompanying memorandum, they argue that oncology patients can suffer severe immune suppression after chemotherapy and radiotherapy, leaving them exposed to serious, potentially life-threatening complications if urgent care is delayed. They describe King Hamad University Hospital as a key referral centre for cancer care in Bahrain, and say a dedicated emergency wing would improve the quality of care, reduce infection rates and provide a safer setting for patients with low immunity. The proposal was submitted by MPs Mohammed Al Rifai and Mohammed Mousa, along with Abdulwahid Qarata, Ali Saqer Al Doseri and Hisham Al Awadhi.
