Former Deputy First Minister Jim Wallace, who served as an MP for Orkney and Shetland, has died. Lord Wallace, who served as Scotland’s first deputy first minister, died earlier today at the age of 71. A former Liberal MP for the Northern Isles, he served 18 years in the House of Commons. Mr Wallace served as the moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 2021 to 2022. “Scotland is a better country because of Jim Wallace and the Liberal Democrats are a better party because of his example.”Lord Wallace is survived by his wife, their two daughters, Helen and Grace, his mother Grace and brother Neil.
