In addition to addressing a power outage crisis, officials in Oxford are searching for a major leak in the city’s water system that causing the city to lose millions of gallons of water each day. The Oxford Eagle reports that the intensive search for the major leak in the municipal water system is prompting expanded, temporary water service suspensions in several areas as officials work to stabilize pressure and restore capacity. On Tuesday, the system pumped roughly 13 million gallons but was still unable to meet demand, reinforcing concerns that a major leak remains undiscovered, city officials reported. Those closures temporarily suspended water service to neighborhoods south of North Mississippi Regional Center and Veterans Drive, including Windsor Falls, South Oaks, Whippoorwill, South Grove, and areas along Pea Ridge Road. Water service in the newly suspended areas is expected to remain off overnight while crews conduct early morning testing and analysis.
