Mississippi resident dies after accident involving generator, officials report

Lafayette County Emergency Management reported the county’s first storm-related death following an accident involving a generator at a resident’s property.
According to officials, Lafayette County Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at approximately 3:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, after an individual fell while refilling a generator and struck their head.
Emergency management officials said the victim’s name is being withheld out of respect for the family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” said Steve Quarles, director of Lafayette County Emergency Management.
Lafayette County Emergency Management is reminding residents to take extra precautions while cleaning up storm debris and operating equipment during winter weather conditions.
