HYDE PARK, N.Y. — A Hyde Park man with a long history of driving under the influence was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide on Thursday in connection with a December 2025 head-on crash on U.S. Route 9 that left a Hyde-Park man dead, according to town police. Authorities added that this marks the sixth time Rider has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and despite five prior arrests, Rider maintained a valid driver’s license before the fatal crash. Rider was arraigned in Hyde Park Town Court and was sent to the Dutchess County Jail on $5,000,000 bail. The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office, the state Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, the state Police Laboratory, State Police Community Stabilization Unit and sate Department of Corrections and Community Supervision assisted the Hyde Park Police Department with this investigation. “Their combined efforts were instrumental in bringing justice to the family of Alijah M. Johnson,” authorities said.
