advertisementThe Kebbi State Government has approved the training and deployment of 3,000 vigilantes across the state to strengthen community protection and support overstretched conventional security agencies. The Governor of the state, Nasir Idris announced the development while inspecting 500 vigilantes and hunters undergoing tactical training programme in Kalgo Local Government Area. Story continues below advertisementIdris said the initiative was necessitated by growing security challenges in the North-West, including banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping, noting that federal security formations in the state are increasingly overstretched. Instructors were drawn from the Department of State Services, Nigerian Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Army Legion and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. He disclosed that the governor approved 32 vehicles, 511 motorcycles and training allowances to support field operations and welfare, describing the initiative as a landmark in Kebbi’s security reforms.
