"It was quite a difficult film to pull off," says director Philippa Lowthorpe of H Is for Hawk — in that most typical of British understatements. And also honoring what it is to be a good dad — not a goody-two-shoes dad, but a good man and somebody who had a good relationship just seemed absolutely lovely. I think it's a very good point that we rarely see that good dad on film — it's always the distant father or the abusive father. And then in the house, when Helen first unhoods Mabel, Claire did that for real. But they were very kind to me, and we all had a little cry at one point or another.
