Two teenagers were rescued from an icy pond Wednesday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, rescue crews got to work about 5:15 p.m. to assist the boys, one 16 and the other 15 years old, who had fallen through thin ice at the Jefferson County fishing pond.
A 911 call first reported the two teens had fallen through and were submerged in the pond, unable to get out.
Currently, first responders do not know how long the teens were in the water before they arrived.
Due to unstable ice less than 2 inches thick, there were “significant rescue hazards,” according to the sheriff’s office.
