As this abnormally dry winter continues to roll onward, the 60-some groups participating in ‘Colorado Climate Disasters Awareness Week’ are focusing on the human toll and economic impacts that worsening droughts are having on our state. From January 26–30, 2026, people across Colorado have been participating in Colorado Climate Disasters Awareness Week to uplift real stories from those impacted by climate disasters and to urge our leaders to prepare and take bold action to reduce the impacts of a changing climate. The shrinking snowpack and higher-than-normal temperatures continue to diminish water supplies across the Colorado River Basin (Source: Drought.gov). Longer dry spells, regular megafires, and now a winter this dry feels truly concerning. We are worried about climate impacts on rivers, not only for recreation, but for drinking water and agriculture.
