Blood products have a limited shelf life, making consistent donations critical. “Winter months are always challenging for the blood supply, but weather-related disruptions make it even more difficult,” said Mandi Johnson, director of community engagement for LifeShare Blood Center. While all donations are needed, platelet donations are especially needed at this time. Unlike whole blood donations, platelets can only be donated in-center and require specialized equipment and staff.
