Winter storm watch issued as heavy snow, extreme cold expected this weekend

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...FOOTHILLS—The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Foothills, in effect from 4 p.m. Friday, January 30, through 7 a.m. Sunday, February 1, as forecast models increasingly point to significant winter weather this weekend.
As of Thursday morning, forecasters were calling for a 90% chance of snow beginning Friday evening and continuing into Saturday morning.
Total snow accumulations of 4 to 7 inches are possible, along with wind gusts up to 35 mph.
High temperatures this weekend are expected to remain in the mid-20s, with overnight lows dropping to around 13 degrees.
The NWS warns that prolonged exposure to extreme cold can lead to hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken.
