The Transport Committee has launched an inquiry to examine the ambitions and potential effectiveness of the Government’s new Road Safety Strategy. Published earlier this month, the first Road Safety Strategy in more than a decade targets the main causes of collisions, including drink- and drug-driving, speeding, inexperience behind the wheel and unsafe vehicles. It also includes proposals for a Road Safety Investigation Branch and Work-Related Road Safety Charter. The Transport Committee’s inquiry will now look into the Road Safety Strategy to “explore whether ministers are heading in the right direction to really make a difference”. We will then make recommendations to the Government to best ensure that the Road Safety Strategy achieves its aims and works for all road users.”The inquiry is open for written submissions until 13 March on specific terms of reference.
