Local homeless shelters dealing with brutal winter weather
['Gregory Adams']

Local homeless shelters are being hit hard with the latest bout of wintry weather.
Between last weekend’s snowstorm and frigid temperatures they are working overtime to try and accommodate those in need.
The shelter, located at 214 W. Walnut St., is a part of Catholic Social Services (CSS) of Hazleton under the Diocese of Scranton.
With overnight lows in the Hazleton area forecast to stay in the single digits until at least next week, Matarella predicts the shelter will open early again and stay open later.
The shelter has also partnered with Volunteers of America and Ruth’s Place so those staying at the shelter are able to shower.
