Winter storm watch issued for East Tennessee, southwest Virginia

MORRISTOWN — A winter storm watch has been issued for much of East Tennessee and southwest Virginia, with heavy snow possible beginning Friday afternoon and continuing through late Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.
Forecasters said total snow accumulations of 3 to 7 inches are possible across the region, with higher elevations seeing stronger winds.
The watch includes Hawkins, Sullivan, Johnson, Washington, Unicoi, Greene, Carter, Cocke, Sevier and Monroe counties in Tennessee, along with portions of Wise, Scott, Russell and Washington counties in Virginia.
Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for possible winter weather impacts, including travel delays and hazardous road conditions.
The winter storm watch remains in effect from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night.
