A lot of women aren't aware of the number issues they can face during pregnancy and even after delivery. UMC says 30% of their patients don't have prenatal care. Gloria Delgado, assistant administrator of UMC's Women's Services says anemia that's not managed during pregnancy can cause postpartum hemorrhaging. Hypertension isn't preventable during pregnancy, which is why Delgado says prenatal care and routine checkups are important for monitoring. Another reason, she says, could be due to new or expecting moms feeling a lack of support.
