A second person, reportedly the 24-year-old brother of a teenager whose body was found earlier, has died from injuries suffered in a possible fireworks explosion and fire at an apartment complex in Bell Gardens that left one other victim injured.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department were called just after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, to the 6500 block of Purdy Avenue, for heavy flames at the two-story complex.
The second floor appeared to have significant damage.
Family members told reporters the deceased teenager was Carlos Hernandez, 13, and the man who died at a hospital his brother, Christopher Benitez.
Sheriff’s investigators found materials that suggested homemade explosives and fireworks, the agency said.
