Role Funding:Communities across the Western Bay of Plenty are being encouraged to apply for short-term financial support following the recent severe weather event, as the Western Bay Mayoral Relief Fund opens for applications. An initial $100,000 contribution from central government has been allocated to the Mayoral Relief Fund as part of a wider $1.2 million storm recovery package shared among the six councils most affected by the event. They operate by combining public donations, central government contributions, and local council administration to get help out quickly where it’s needed most. The Western Bay of Plenty District Council says applications must be completed by 5:00 pm on 15 February 2026. For many whānau and small businesses still grappling with the aftermath of storms, this dedicated relief fund offers a practical lifeline – helping with immediate recovery costs and essential needs as communities continue to rebuild.
