The committee is to be chaired by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Senator Niyi Adegbomire. Explaining the rationale for the exercise, the Senate said the proposed amendment is aimed at reforming the country’s electoral process through improved transparency, enhanced voter confidence and increased citizen participation. Senators who spoke during plenary, said the review would address loopholes identified in previous elections, noting that the credibility of the electoral system remains central to democratic stability. The Senate leadership restated its commitment to ensuring that the Electoral Act aligns with best global practices and meets the expectations of Nigerians.
