Nowon isn’t a GenAI music startup that people can use to create tracks. The Swiss firm’s focus is music-recognition technology, but AI is firmly on its radar. Austrian collecting society AKM has invested in the startup and says it is “actively involved” in its product development and market rollout. However, Nowon is also working with AKM on “methods to reliably detect artificially generated music and, if necessary, to draw conclusions about the underlying training data”. “We are not only investing in technology, but in the future of music rights management and preparing ourselves for the next dimension of the digital world,” said director general Gernot Graninger.
