The latest group of legislators to back the music industry’s view on AI training is the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee.
17 committee members voted in favour of the proposals, with three against and two abstaining.
The next step will be for the report to be put to a Parliament vote in March.
If copyrighted works are used to train AI systems, creators are entitled to transparency, legal certainty, and fair compensation,” said Axel Voss, the MEP who drove the report.
Music-industry bodies ECSA and Gesac both welcomed the news, while encouraging other MEPs to back the report in March.
