Former Ward 2 D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans — who has long sought to return to local politics since his 2020 resignation from the Council amid ethics investigations — is mounting a challenge to Council Chair Phil Mendelson’s at-large seat.
The D.C. Council voted to reprimand Evans for his behavior — which the Washington Post first reported — months earlier.
Days after resigning, Evans announced a run for the ward seat from which he resigned.
Evans finished second-to-last in a field of eight candidates, earning just 3.4 percent of the primary vote, with now-congressional-hopeful and current Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto prevailing.
The Washington Post reported Tuesday Evans maintains his conduct was not corrupt, only giving the appearance of corruption.
